What are VoIP Softphones

To make calls from your PC you need to install a VoIP softphone. VoIP softphones are software devices that create a virtual phone on your computer and allow receiving and making calls from your PC. If you use your computer most of the time you will find VoIP softphones very convenience. VoIP use your computer hardware to create a VoIP telephone and a keypad and display are designed to make and receive calls. - Integration with IM services. You can send instant messages from your VoIP softphone. Chat sessions are also available during phone calls.
- Videophones. VoIP softphone may allow receiving and making video calls from your computer on condition that telecommunication companies offer this service.

Installing VoIP software on your computer you may face an issue of compatibility as different VoIP softphones providers offer different VoIP software that may be incompatible with your hardware. You can get VoIP software either from your VoIP service provider of from a third party VoIP software provider. VoIP service providers often release VoIP softphones that are easily integrated in their system and therefore you are unlikely to have problems with compatibility. Independent VoIP softphones providers tend to offer VoIP softphones that supports multiple protocols in order to make VoIP softphones compatible with most VoIP services.

If you already have a VoIP provider it may be a good idea to purchase a VoIP softphone from them in order to eliminate any compatibility question. But if you are not satisfied with VoIP softphones offered by your current provider you can buy a VoIP softphone from a third party to get more advanced features and options.
